It’s not too late for a review of Medicare D options available this fall. Medicare D open enrollment is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. This is the time that participants can review Medicare D plans available and change plans as needed. There have been several changes to plans for 2025, so it is a good idea to review coverage to make sure each participant has the best coverage for them for the next year.

Two certified SHIP counselors at JCH&L, Lori Ohlde, RN, and Deb Sutton, RN, will meet with participants for a free unbiased review of their Medicare D options.

Appointments are required by calling 402-587-5184 and leaving a message with their name and a phone number where they can be reached. Appointments are only being made through this number.

Participants must bring with them to the appointment their complete list of prescription medications including dosage and how often they take it. They will also be asked to bring their Medicare card or Medicare number, and login credentials if they already have a Medicare online account.

The Caregivers Support Group offered by the Alzheimer’s Association will meet on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 4:30 p.m. in the Jefferson Community Health & Life Clinic Conference Room. The program will be a video on “Making Visits Valuable – Part 2” by Teepa Snow.

Easiest access will be by parking in the H Street parking and entering through the JCH&L Main Entrance. Follow the signage to “Caregiver’s Support.”

The Caregiver’s Support Group is a program of the Alzheimer’s Association. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month in the JCH&L Clinic Conference Room.

The support group is designed for those who are caregivers and family members of those who have Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementias.  The group provide an opportunity anyone interested to share their experiences with Alzheimer’s Disease and learn from other’s experiences. There is no cost, and no pre-registration required.

It’s not too late to receive an influenza or COVID vaccination, and vaccinations remain available by appointment at JCH&L Fairbury Clinic. To make an appointment call 402-729-3361, option 1, and ask for a vaccination appointment for either or both vaccines. Influenza and COVID vaccines can be given on the same day.

When coming for your vaccination appointments this year, please:

• Wear clothing which allows easy access to your arm
• Bring your health insurance card and photo ID. Most health insurances cover the influenza and COVID vaccines. There will be a fee payable that day if it will be private pay.

The CDC recommends annual influenza vaccination for everyone 6 months of age or older every year. Once the vaccine is administered, it takes about 2 weeks for peak immunity to develop. The flu season typically starts in about November, but can last until March or April.

The CDC recommends The CDC recommends a dose of the updated 2024-2025 COVID vaccine. JCH&L will have the Moderna Spikevax vaccine available at vaccine clinics for those 12 years of age and older.

Children 18 and under covered by Medicaid can’t get their influenza or COVID vaccines at these clinics. Please contact Blue Valley Community Action’s vaccination program at 402-826-2141, extension 3, for information on flu and/or COVID vaccinations at BVCA shot clinics.

Children will have an opportunity to learn about healthy eating and the importance of working together to plan and prepare healthy meals during a Cooking Class for Kids to be offered Friday, Nov. 1 at Jefferson Community Health & Life. The program is open to kids in grades 3-6 and their adult partners. During the class, participants will prepare a simple healthy meal together and then enjoy the meal as a group. The class is sponsored by Jefferson Community Health & Life and Nebraska Extension – Jefferson County.

The Friday, Nov. 1, class will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The registration fee is $20 per team. Pre-registration with payment is required by Monday, Oct. 28.

Aprons will be available for the children to wear during the class, and available for them to purchase after the class if they choose for an additional $5.
