JCH&L Holding Peach Sale as Fund-raiser

August 25, 2023/by Lana Likens

Jefferson Community Health & Life is partnering with Main Street Market of Milford for the sale of Colorado peaches by the lug, as a fund-raiser for JCH&L. Main Street Market owner Craig Bontrager has pledged to donate to JCH&L based on the number of lugs of peaches sold.

Peaches are $48 per lug, or $24 per half lug. (A lug is approximately 20 pounds.) The final pickup time will be Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Distribution will be set up in the JCH&L main parking lot (west side of the building, accessed from H Street.)

Pre-orders are required by calling JCH&L at 402-587–5193. Call any time and leave a voice mail including your name, phone number, how many lugs of peaches you want to order, and what pickup date you want. Orders are due by Sept. 1 for the Sept. 12 delivery date.

Walk up sales may be offered during the pickup times, subject to peach availability.

Payment is to be made at the time of pickup, cash or check only, with checks payable to Main Street Market. No electronic payment options are available.

JCH&L Women’s Health Day Scheduled for Sept. 12, Nov. 21

August 25, 2023/by Lana Likens

Wellness Experience Offers Women a Convenient Way to Take Control of Their Health

In just about three hours women from Jefferson County and beyond can complete their annual health checks and receive a well-deserved indulgence at the same time. Women’s Health Day is a complete wellness experience designed to make women’s health easy. Jefferson Community Health & Life is now scheduling for the experience on Tuesday, Sept. 12, and Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The program is available at the Jefferson Community Health & Life Health Center and Fairbury Clinic on select days every month, and includes:

* Personalized guidance from an on-site Women’s Health Day navigator

* Important health screenings, including fasting lab tests, a screening mammogram and a routine annual exam to assess overall and gynecological health (lab test and mammogram results will be available before participants leave for the day, while Pap test results will be provided later by mail)

* Complimentary breakfast and a relaxing indulgence—such as an express manicure or hand massage, for example. Offerings may vary.

* Reserved parking

“It’s so important for women to make time for their own health, but we know life sometimes gets in the way,” said Erin Starr, Chief Nursing Officer. “That’s why we created Women’s Health Day—to provide a convenient way for women to get their essential health screenings all at once, while also taking time to unwind.”

All major insurance plans are accepted for screening and exams (coverage is subject to individual policy terms). JCH&L Fairbury Clinic accepts new patients.

Appointments for the Women’s Health Day experience start as early as 6:30 a.m. To schedule, call 402.729.6841.

JCH&L Gardenside Evacuates Because of Fire Alarm

August 2, 2023/by Lana Likens

JCH&L Gardenside evacuated for a short time at around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, because of a fire alarm caused by smoke in the housekeeping area. Residents were taken to the JCH&L North Building.

Patrick Hoins, JCH&L Facilities Director and Safety Officer, said the fire department did come on site and helped investigate the cause of the smoke. The smoke was found to be from an  air handling unit on the roof, and the problem was corrected.

Gardenside residents were brought back into the facility once the fire department gave the all clear.

There were no injuries and no damage. The fire alarms sounded for about 45 minutes.
