Dr. April Vonderfecht to Join JCH&L
April Vonderfecht, MD, will join the medical staff of Jefferson Community Health & Life in November. Dr. Vonderfecht, an area native, is a board certified family medicine physician and has special interest in pediatric and women’s health.
Dr. Vonderfecht said she felt called to be a family practice physician for a number of reasons – but primarily to care for patients in rural Nebraska.
”I felt like I was called to the position to provide evidence-based care in the communities that I grew up in. Access to medicine in rural Nebraska is becoming more difficult, and I feel that it is important for these communities to keep the ability to be cared for and have their health managed close to home,” Dr. Vonderfecht said.
Her philosophy of care is based on current evidence-based medicine for patients of all ages – newborn to the end of life.
“I try to prioritize quality of life for my patients. I think preventative care is important to help catch disease processes early on before they become more difficult to manage. I also think it is important for the patient to feel like I am their advocate. I want them to feel confident in their health literacy when it comes to making their own decisions about their health,” Dr. Vonderfecht said.
Dr. Vonderfecht completed her residency at Grand Island in the UNMC Rural Training Track program. She received her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Cener at Omaha. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology with a health services emphasis from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Dr. Vonderfecht is currently a physician at Brodstone Healthcare in Superior.
Dr. Vonderfecht and her husband, Jonah, live in Deshler and her husband farms in the Gladstone and Gilead area. They have three children, twins, Clara and Simon, who are 2, and Maxwell, who is 6 months.
